Dual Citizenship Scandal: Indian National Allegedly Holds Nepali Citizenship Illegally

Birgunj – In a shocking revelation that has stirred concerns over national sovereignty and legal enforcement, Navnit Kumar, an Indian national born and raised in Purnea, Bihar, has been accused of illegally obtaining Nepali citizenship under the alias Navnit Kumar Singh, despite holding valid Indian identification documents.

Currently based at Birgunj Nepal as a Manager at Modi-Mundi Pharma Private Limited, a pharmaceutical company based in Delhi, India, Navnit holds an Indian passport and an Indian Embassy Card. Yet, he reportedly acquired Nepali citizenship claiming false birth credentials in Nepal—an act that clearly violates Nepal’s citizenship laws, which do not permit dual nationality.

The issue came to light after a formal complaint was lodged at the District Administration Office (DAO), Parsa on Jestha 24, 2080 B.S., followed by a registration of the case at the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Jestha 26, 2080 B.S., under file number C-068684. Authorities confirmed that an investigation is underway.

Despite this, both the Home Ministry and the CIAA have maintained silence, while the DAO itself claims to have “no clear information,” raising serious questions about enforcement and transparency.

Navnit has allegedly traveled multiple times between Delhi and various Indian states using his Indian passport via Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), while actively using his Nepali identity within Nepal. Sources claim he is involved in suspicious business activities, possibly facilitated by his dual identity, and he has reportedly been seen using fake government letterheads and stamps, which led to a prior police station inquiry.

📍 A Tale of Two Identities

Under his false Nepali identity, Navnit Kumar Singh has reportedly secured a Nepali citizenship certificate, driving license, and has been conducting business operations across Kathmandu, Pokhara, Biratnagar, Simara, Bharatpur, and more. His personal details—including birthdate, father’s name, blood group, and photograph—remain identical across both Indian and Nepali documents.

He currently resides in Birgunj, Nepal, with his wife, while maintaining full-time employment in India. The blatant contradiction in his legal status has alarmed both locals and officials, especially given reports that he boasts of powerful political and bureaucratic connections.

🧑‍⚖️ Suspected Political Protection?

What has further enraged the public is Navnit’s alleged connection with former DIG Ramesh Kharel, with photos surfacing on social media. Eyewitnesses claim he frequently boasted:

“Who can touch me? I have money — I can buy the law.”

Moreover, he has reportedly claimed that his brother holds a high-ranking post at the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu, fuelling suspicion that he may be enjoying diplomatic protection or political shielding.

🏛 Questions That Demand Answers:

Has Modi-Mundi Pharma verified Navnit’s nationality or endorsed this dual identity?

Does the company allow employees stationed in Nepal to hold dual citizenship?

Who in Nepal’s administrative or political circles is backing Navnit’s illegal activities?

Is Nepal becoming a safe haven for foreign nationals manipulating the legal system?

📢 Public Outcry and Call for Action

This case has become a flashpoint for rising public frustration over weak governance and lack of enforcement. Activists and concerned citizens are demanding immediate action from the Home Ministry, Nepal Police, and the CIAA.

“If this is allowed to continue, genuine Nepali citizens will be pushed aside while wealthy foreigners rewrite the laws,” said one concerned Birgunj resident.

The time for silence is over. Navnit Kumar Singh must be detained, thoroughly investigated, and prosecuted under Nepal’s citizenship and criminal laws. Failure to act now could set a dangerous precedent—one that undermines national integrity and encourages the abuse of identity for personal gain.
